The Rotary Club of Gawler Light has been an active supporter of the Rotary Youth Exchange program since 1997 with sponsorship of both inbound and outbound students. Inbound students normally arrive in July each year and attend either Xavier or Trinity Colleges for a 12 month period. Students are home-hosted with Rotarian's families and have great opportunity for travel in Australia.

A year of study overseas as a Rotary Youth Exchange gives a student an opportunity to develop their personal self confidence and maturity, a lifetime of international friendships, a real understanding of many different cultures, new language skills and a base for future education and career goals. Nominations are sought in January to the end of March; an interview takes place with the student and the parents explaining the process and costs. If the applicant is successful, training and preparation takes place until the student departs for their exchange. The student has a councillor appointed from the Rotary Club of Gawler Light and the host club overseas.

Since 1997, our club has hosted students from Germany, USA, Finland, Japan, Switzerland, Brazil, China, Denmark, Belgium, France and Sweden and sponosred local students in their exchange to Finland, Belgium, Denmark, USA, Brazil, China, Germany and Sweden.
